David Bellugi
David Bellugi, nato negli USA, si è diplomato in Musicologia Applicata con B. Turetzky presso l’Università della California-San Diego dove ha studiato con B. Batschelet (flauto), B. Rands e R. Erickson (composizione), A. Newman (musica barocca), T. Nee (direzione d’orchestra), B. Turetzky (advisor in musicologia), proseguendo le sue ricerche sulle prassi antiche della musica antica con A. Geoffroy-Dechaume a Parigi (allievo di Arnold Dolmetsch).
Si è presentato come solista con molte orchestre tra cui: l’ORT-Firenze, Radio France-Parigi e Lille, Radio della Svizzera Italiana-Lugano, Pomeriggi Musicali-Milano, Orchestra da Camera di Padova, RAI-Torino e Harvard University; ed in recitals in Australia, Austria, Belgio, Canada, Francia, Grecia, Inghilterra, Israele, Italia, Portogallo, Scozia, Spagna, Stati Uniti e Svizzera.
I compositori Berio, D’Angelo, De Angelis, Khacheh, Luciani, Porena, Prosperi e Viozzi gli hanno dedicato delle opere e ha registrato le musiche per film di Ennio Morricone, “… E ridendo l’uccise” di Florestano Vancini e del compositore Michael Galasso.
Dal 1979 è titolare della cattedra di Flauto Dolce presso il Conservatorio “Luigi Cherubini”.
Nel 2015 affida alla EMA Vinci records il suo catalogo discografico nel formato digitale creando la linea discografica David Belugi music.
David, born and raised in the USA, graduated Summa cum Laude from the University of California at San Diego where he studied with flautist Bernhardt-Ambros Batschelet, composers Robert Erickson and Bernard Rands, harpsichordist Anthony Newman, conductor Thomas Nee and double bass player Bertram Turetzky (his advisor for musicology). After graduating David went to Paris where he continued his studies of Early Music interpretation with harpsichordist Antoine Geoffroy-Dechaume, a student of Early Music pioneer Arnold Dolmetsch, and then settled in Florence, Italy where, since 1979, he has taught Recorder at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica “Luigi Cherubini“.
David has performed as soloist and as conductor-soloist with many orchestras including: Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra, Italian Radio Orchestra of Turin, Radio France-Paris, Radio France-Lille, Radio della Svizzera Italiana, as well as with the orchestras of Bari, Cagliari, Cordoba, Emilia-Romagna, Florence, Harvard University, Milano, Padova, Palermo, Sanremo and Torino. He has performed in recitals and concert/lectures in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, England, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland and in the U.S.A.
David has premiered various works — composers Luciano Berio, Nuccio D’Angelo, Ugalberto de Angelis, Kamran Khacheh, Dan Locklair, Riccardo Luciani, Boris Porena, Carlo Prosperi and Giulio Viozzi have all dedicated musical compositions to Bellugi — and has recorded film music for Italian composer Ennio Morricone and American composer Michael Galasso.
David lives in Florence, Italy with his wife Rebecca Hayward, a painter, with whom he has two daughters: Sarah, a dancer who works and resides in Sweden, and Sonia, a singer (soprano) who lives in Paris.
