Lauded for his exceptional technique and musical imagination, Wilson Ng is currently Associate Conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and Artistic Director of the Gustav Mahler Orchestra Hong Kong having become laureate of the Mahler Competition in Bamberg, the Solti International Conductors’ Competition in Frankfurt and the Svetlanov International Conducting Competition in Paris.
Following his debut performance with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, he was re-engaged to conduct at high-profile events including the Seoul Arts Center Orchestra Festival’s opening concerts in 2019 and 2020, and the Seoul Philharmonic’s first live-streamed online concerts. His growing reputation led him to conduct the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, and Korean Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra.
In Europe, he has worked with many leading orchestras including the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. His debut with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie at the Alte Oper Frankfurt with Scriabin’s The Poem of Ecstasy was acclaimed by the Frankfurter Rundschau as “The Pinnacle of Ecstasy”.
Wilson Ng began his career as a flautist prior to specializing in conducting. He pursued his advanced conducting studies at the Universität der Künste Berlin, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, as well as the conducting academies of the Pacific Music Festival and Aspen Music Festival where he was awarded the James Conlon Conductor Prize.
